We're Crushing It
In collaboration with Saint-Gobain Glass and their Glass Forever programme, we’ve introduced a glass-crushing unit at our Norwich plant to great success.
Glass Forever is a circular economy approach to sustainability, remanufacturing both pre- and post-consumer waste glass – also known as cullet – into high-performance glazing solutions for a wide range of applications across the domestic and commercial markets.
Pre-consumer cullet is generated during the manufacturing of insulated glass units (IGUs), while post-consumer cullet comes from old glazing in homes or commercial buildings. Both types of glass can be melted down and remade into new glazing.
At Ecoglass, sustainability is at the heart of our operations. As part of Glass Forever, we’ve been collecting glass offcuts during production to be sent to the Saint-Gobain Glass factory in Eggborough for remanufacturing.
With the addition of the glass crusher at our headquarters, we can now also support the collection of post-consumer glass. Currently available to select local merchants as we scale, the programme has already helped local installers recycle old windows, reducing waste and saving on disposal costs.
Mark High, Director at Ecoglass, spoke about the programme’s success: “A sustainable approach to manufacturing has always been important to Ecoglass. By recycling cullet glass, we’re helping to create a sustainable loop, reducing the need for raw materials and cutting the environmental impact of glass production. This not only supports the environment but also reinforces our commitment to sustainability in the fenestration industry. We’re excited to scale our operations with the Glass Crusher and are thrilled with the early success.”
We're proud of the progress we've made with the Glass Forever programme and the impact it's having on our sustainability efforts. As we continue to scale, we're excited to do our part in driving a more sustainable future for the glass industry.
