Summer Glow Up - Student Placement Diary | Week 1

This summer, we’ve invited Ellis Hopper into the fold. He’s 15, full of ideas and has an entrepreneurial spirit that’s brought a summer glow-up to Ecoglass.  

Ellis has switched the classroom for the company boardroom this summer, and he's shadowing Mark High, learning all about the technical and the practical when it comes to glass, business development and sales relationships.  

During his time with us, we’ve invited Ellis to document his experiences in a weekly blog, and week one was all about getting his feet under the table.  

Q: That’s week one, done! How did you find it? 

A: It’s definitely been interesting. I started the week by completing various health and safety assessment videos and forms, and I got involved in a few calls with Mark. I also had the chance to meet with the senior team members. 

Q: I hear you’re taking Business Studies at School. Have you seen any of that classroom theory in action? 

A: Yeah, I’ve heard USP being used a couple of times! To be honest, I've been getting my head down and trying to learn all about the business from Mark. It's been good to see and understand all the different stages that Ecoglass go through, not just the orders, production and delivery, but also the sales part – building customer relationships through sales and marketing.  

Q: Speaking of marketing, we’re getting you involved in our TikTok account! 

A: I’ve spent some time researching other manufacturing businesses for ideas, and I'm starting to pull together a content plan of what I would like to do.  

It’s been interesting to see the marketing campaign plan for our usual social media channels for Q4. Now I can make sure it’s all aligned and I'm looking forward to bringing everything together and setting up the channel. 

Q: And you’re also getting involved in other parts of our marketing too? 

A: Mark asked me to email our customers the latest summer newsletter so I've done some work on that - keep a lookout in your inboxes! 

Ellis will be completing a few days a week with the team over the summer, so if you see him on our social feeds or even out and about on the road, be sure to say hi!
