It's a wrap! - Student Placement Diary | Week 3
Week three is done, and with that, Ellis has officially completed his summer placement at Ecoglass.
From a crash course in sales and marketing to gaining an understanding of the world of manufacturing and even dabbling in some content creation, we’ve certainly kept Ellis on his toes through his summer holidays.
For the final time this summer, we caught up with Ellis to get his thoughts.
Interviewer: The summer placement is officially over! How did you find it?
Ellis: A whirlwind! This week I've done some more work on the sales prospecting exercise for Mark and even had a formal end-point assessment with him.
Interviewer: How was that?
Ellis: I didn’t realise how much I’d done until we sat down to review it. I’ve definitely got more of an appreciation for the speed at which things move in manufacturing.
Interviewer: Did that surprise you?
Ellis: Yeah. To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect when I started this placement. But I now understand how much work goes into sales and prospecting, and the influence all the different departments have in making the final product. And Mark gave me some really good advice to help me in the future.
Interviewer: For sales and prospecting?
Ellis: Sales, prospecting, general tips and tricks of navigating a business. I’ve learnt a lot from him and thankful for his time and patience!
Interviewer: And then we got you involved in some content creation this week too!
Ellis: Yeah, me, Jasmine, and Craig filmed some content for an upcoming campaign. That was good fun. Again, I didn’t realise how much goes into a full campaign of content.
Interviewer: Yes, marketers love making a lot of work for ourselves!
Let’s finish on this – any final thoughts on your placement?
Ellis: It’s been really insightful, and I want to say thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to explain things and help me out. A big shout out to Mark as well for all his help and patience.
Interviewer: Thanks Ellis and best of luck with finishing up Year 11 this year.
Ellis: Thank you
We also asked Mark to share some of his thoughts on the placement: “Ellis has a natural curiosity and a strong desire to absorb and learn. It’s certainly been interesting for me to view the business through the lens of his questions.
The placement went really well, and I’ve got no doubt that Ellis will fly in whatever he chooses to do next, and I wish him the best of luck with his future endeavours.”
