Getting ahead of the Future Homes Standard. Why we’re bringing the Technical Academy Online

When the results of our customer survey came back earlier this year, one of the clearest things customers told us was that they wanted more access to technical training, and they wanted it in a format that was easier to fit around a working day.

We pride ourselves on being a customer-first business that’s always prepared to go the extra mile, and that’s been demonstrated best with Ian’s Technical Training Academy, but we recognise that the format wasn’t working for everyone, and with the incoming Future Homes Standard, getting across the importance and impact of these changes became a focal point of our webinar series.

What We're Launching and Why

Across September, we’re bringing you three virtual lunchtime sessions, each thirty minutes long and each focused on a glass specification that is becoming increasingly important for anyone working in the fenestration industry right now.

The topics include Low E Glass, Solar Control and Safety Glass. These specifications are relevant to the incoming Future Homes Standard, and they're also the areas where our Estimating and Technical Support Manager, Ian Snow, is consistently finding the most questions coming through on the support line. The knowledge gaps around these products have real consequences when the wrong glass ends up in the wrong application.

The sessions are completely free and require no prior technical knowledge. We’ve opened them to anyone in the industry who wants to attend, as we recognise that thirty minutes at lunchtime is a small investment for knowledge that will genuinely change the conversations you're having with customers and homeowners.

Why the Future Homes Standard Makes this Urgent

The Future Homes Standard is no longer something on the horizon. The regulations have been confirmed; the timeline is set, and mandatory compliance for new homes in England comes into force from March 2028. That might feel like it's some distance away, but in practice, the supply chain needs to be ready well before the deadline arrives, and ready means knowledgeable, confident and equipped to specify the right products from the outset.

We’re finding that the regulatory changes are being understood at a headline level, but the day-to-day product implications are less clear, and the installers and fabricators who can answer these implications confidently will be in a much stronger position than those who are working it out as they go.

What Good Preparation Looks Like

The businesses that navigate any industry change most successfully are the ones that start the conversation early, with their teams, customers and suppliers. Not the ones that wait for a regulation to land and then scramble to catch up.

Getting ahead of the Future Homes Standard isn't just about compliance. It's about being the installer or fabricator that homeowners and developers trust to give them the right answer, because you know the product, you understand the application, and you can explain clearly why a particular specification makes sense for their home or their project. That confidence comes from knowledge, and knowledge comes from investing the time to learn before the pressure is on.

The lunchtime sessions are one way of doing that. The Technical Academy and the direct support line are another. Between them, we want to make sure that every Ecoglass customer has access to the information and guidance they need to face these changes with confidence rather than uncertainty.
