Meet the Team - Jamie Mendham

Approaching his 25th anniversary at Ecoglass, Jamie Mendham started his days sweeping floors and rolling up his sleeves for the manufacturing of our IGUs. Today, as Company Director, Jamie proudly carries forward the legacy of the family business.

Interviewer: 25 Years, Congratulations that’s quite the achievement!

Jamie: Thank you. Yeah, it’s quite a long time isn’t it!

Q: Talk us through a day in your shoes, what do you usually get up to?

A: It can vary quite a bit, but the heart and priority are always the customer for me. As a team, we focus on ensuring a rigorously high-quality service to our customers. Rather than look at a challenge and turn it away, we will always try and turn a possible no into a yes. We are a team of very proud problem solvers at Ecoglass.

Q: I can imagine scenarios with a lot of chin scratching involved

A: Sometimes! But that’s the fun, isn’t it? Taking something that looks impossible or really difficult on paper and figuring out how we can make it into a reality.

Q: How has all your time at Ecoglass influenced the way you approach work today?

A: I don’t think I can put a true value on experience. Having worked across the company at different levels, that first-hand knowledge of individual teams and their challenges and pressures makes you more aware for sure.

Q: How so?

A: Take this example. An order may come through which may feel complex or outside of our usual scope. But as a team, we apply our collective expertise and shared knowledge in a way that makes a unique order a standout one.

Q: Tell me about your shared office, it’s quite a lively one.

A: That’s quite an understatement! It’s such a fun department to be in. But I won’t lie – I do rely on copious amounts of coffee to get me through!

Q: Are you a novelty mug man or will any old one do?

A: I don’t mind a novelty mug! Now that you mention it actually, I had a really good one that went walkabout recently – I need to track it down!

Q: Tell me about life outside of work.

A: I'm a very proud girl dad. I have a lovely wife and two girls aged 11 and 7. My family are a huge part of my life.

Q: Is there anything you like to do with the girls that you enjoyed as a child yourself?

A: This year we broke from tradition and traded sun for snow for our family holiday.

We went on a snowboarding holiday to Vail in Colorado. There were a few bruises and tears, but the girls did so well. It was really nice to see them enjoy something I loved as a child and share that experience with them.

Q: Finally, any TV recommendations you’d make?

A: I’m currently working my way through the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm.

I have to admit, after watching the show, I'm so much more aware of the challenges our farmers face, and I've also made a more conscious effort to shop at my local farm shop more often.

It's lovely to support my local family businesses, especially as Ecoglass is a family business too. I know what it means to be invested in making something special and building it with great people around you.
