Pilkington energiKare is different from standard double glazing as it works in two ways. It reduces the amount of heat lost through your windows and it also allows more heat (energy) from the sun in through the window. This effect is known as solar gain and it comes from the sun it's free of charge and you'll feel its effects all year round. Pilkington energiKare is made up of two special types of glass, Pilkington K Glass, a low emissivity glass which stops heat escaping and Pilkington Optiwhite, a special 'extra clear' glass which allows more solar heat in through the windows and your home benefits by feeling warmer without the need to turn up the heating.

Choose Pilkington energiKare because it helps most windows gain a minimum C rating on the Window Energy Rating scheme (WER - see table below) you can rest assured that you're doing your bit to make your carbon footprint a couple of sizes smaller. All double glazing offers a degree of energy efficiency. And it's still much better than single glazing. However, Pilkington energiKare is twice as energy efficient as standard modern double glazing. The window energy rating scheme has been put in place to help make  choosing windows easier. It's a similar system that is applied to washing machines, fridges, freezers and light bulbs and so on. Basically if a window is rated C or above, it may apply to be part of the 'Energy Saving Recommended' scheme. Windows containing Pilkington energiKare are all rated C or above.
