Laminated glass is a readily available glass which combines both  safety and security properties.  It consists of two or  more sheets of ordinary glass sandwiched together by a polyvinyl butyl interlayer.  Should the glass be broken/attacked, the broken shards of glass remain adhered to the interlayer.

What are the benefits of laminated glass in your home?

 Protection against thieves.

 Protection against noise.

Protection from harmful rays of the sun

Can be easily made into a sealed unit

Laminated glass is also available in colours

Laminated glass conforms to BS 6206 safety standard and is ideal for glazing in 'risk' areas, e.g.

low level  windows, doors, overhead glazing etc.

Laminated glass is now a preferred product  for glazing in overhead situations and swimming pool

Laminated glass meets with this requirement.

  NEW BUILD

The Building Regulations 1991  Approved Document N.  Glazing - Materials and Protection

Building Regulations 1991 came into operation in England/Wales on 1 June 1992 and applied to all new building work. Approved Document N relates to safety glazing in critical locations.

This require is for the most part the same as that of Regulations 14, above, but includes domestic buildings.

Laminated glass is again a very suitable safety glazing material and meets with the requirements.

  DOCUMENT L

Laminated glass is available with Low-e or Pilkington K coating so that it will meet with the new requirements for energy efficiency, when incorporated into a sealed unit with a cavity of the correct thickness.
